How To Calculate Density Of Styrofoam? 

To calculate Styrofoam density you need only two quantities and they are mass and volume. Well, it is very easy and simple to measure the mass of Styrofoam. For that, just weigh Styrofoam by using a balance and note it down. Now, the volume of styrofoam is dependent upon the shape of the selected styrofoam segment. If you take a rectangular segment of styrofoam, then its volume will be the Height x Length X width of that rectangular segment. 

Now, you have both quantities, just divide mass by volume you will get the Styrofoam density.

Let’s take an example. 

A rectangle-shaped segment of styrofoam material with the parameters of 10 cm of length, 2 cm of width, and 5 cm of height. The mass of the segment is 96 grams, what is the density of styrofoam?  

So, for the rectangular segment, the volume is = 10 x 2 x 5 

                                                                                    = 100 cm3

So, by using the formula, 

The density of Styrofoam = mass of Styrofoamvolume of Styrofoam  

                                               = 96/100 

                                               = 0.96  g/cm3
